A Kirklees paedophile has been handed a longer prison term after being convicted of further historical sexual abuse.

44 year old Wiqas Mahmud, of Huddersfield, was already serving a 19 year term also a 2018 conviction for sexually abusing young girls in Kirklees.

In this latest case he admitted to one count of rape, three offences of sexual activity with a child, an offence of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, and an offence of indecent assault.

The victim were aged between 13 and 14 at the time the offending began in Kirklees in 2001.

He was handed an additional five year four month term at Leeds Crown Court yesterday (June 12) which will be served after his current sentence ends.

Mahmud was further prosecuted after he was reported to police in 2020.

DCI Oliver Coates of West Yorkshire Police said: “Mahmud is without doubt an absolute danger to young females who has now been convicted three times and sentenced to more than 24 years in prison."

“It was welcome to see the court determine he must serve his latest sentence after the lengthy combined 19 year sentence he is currently in prison for, and I hope this further conviction has been of some comfort to his victims.

“Sexual predators such as Mahmud have only been snared through the courage of victims coming forward and I want to thank both women in this case.

“By reporting this horrendous abuse and supporting the trial process, they and other women in these cases, have played a significant role in making communities safer by ensuring men such as Mahmud are off our streets.

“We continue to urge all victims of sexual offending who may not have reported offences to come forwards, no matter when crimes took place. Specialist officers will always listen, investigate and do whatever they can to secure justice for you.”
