“Significant step forward” in plans to bring Keighley hotel back into use
Funding has been approved to bring the Victoria Hotel on Cavendish Street back into use

LONG delayed plans to bring a landmark former hotel in Keighley back into use have taken a significant step forward.
Plans to bring the vacant Victoria Hotel on Cavendish Street back into use date back several years – and the project was one of several to receive funding from the Keighley Towns Fund.
Under the new plans the ground floor would be converted into commercial units and the upper floors turned into flats.
Despite planning permission having been approved, there have been numerous delays to the scheme, and the building, at one of the main gateways to the town centre, has remained covered by hoarding.
But this week a funding agreement for the work has been signed off by Bradford Council and the property owner, as grant recipient.
The grant from the Keighley Towns Fund will contribute towards a planned scheme which will see the 19th century building fully refurbished to accommodate three commercial units on the ground floor and ten one- and two-bedroom apartments on the first and second floors.
Agreed plans, which were approved last year, show that the entrance to two of the commercial units and to the apartments will front onto Cavendish Street, with the entrance to the third commercial unit being on East Parade.
Bradford Council’s Portfolio Holder for Regeneration, Transport and Planning Councillor Alex Ross-Shaw said: “This is an important historic building in a prime location in the centre of Keighley and we know it’s been very frustrating seeing such a key heritage building in the town centre unused and in poor condition.
“It will be great to see this local landmark in good use again and is part of ongoing regeneration work which is already making a big difference to the town and local area.”
Chair of the Keighley Towns Fund Tim Rogers said: “This is part of ongoing work by the Keighley Towns Fund to make significant long-term improvements. It comes in an area of the town which has already changed dramatically thanks to the Towns Fund investment, with the successful completion of the Providence Park site and work to create a new visitor centre in the water tower at the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway Station.”
The Keighley Towns Fund is an allocation of £33.6million Government funding.
The Council has yet to reveal how much funding will be going towards the Victoria Hotel project, but previous papers have said it will be less than £1m.
