Investigation underway after serious collision in Leeds

A man in his 20's has been taken to hospital with serious head injuries.

An investigation is underway after a serious collision in Leeds last night.

Police say they were called just before half past 9 to Meanwood Road - near to the junction with Buslingthorpe Lane.

A car hit a cyclist - the man in his 20's was taken to hospital with serious head injuries.

A driver has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving.

A Police statement said:

"Police are appealing for witnesses following a road traffic collision in Leeds in which a cyclist suffered life-threatening injuries.

"The incident happened at around 9:25pm last night (29/2) on Meanwood Road close to the junction with Buslingthorpe Lane.

"A Seat Altea travelling on Meanwood Road away from the city centre collided with a Scott Aspect electric-powered pedal cycle which was travelling in the opposite direction.

"The cyclist, a male aged in his 20s, was taken to hospital with serious head injuries.

"The driver of the Seat has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving.

"Officers from West Yorkshire Police’s Roads Policing Unit are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the collision or the circumstances leading up to it, or anyone who may have video footage to come forward."
