Investigation after firearms incident in Holmfirth

An investigation is underway after a firearm was used in Holmfirth.

Police say they were called on Friday night to Dunford Road.

A man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

A Police statement said:

"Police in Kirklees are appealing for witnesses after an incident in Holmfirth on Friday night (16/2) in which a firearm was discharged.

"The discharge happened on Dunford Road in the town, close to the junction with South Lane, at around 9:50pm.

"One male has been arrested and taken into custody in connection with the incident.

"Police are continuing their enquiries into the incident and its cause and are appealing for the public’s help in relation to the matter."

Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector Stacey Atkinson said:

“I’d like to reassure people that this was an isolated and targeted incident and that there is no wider threat to the public.

“I would appeal for anyone who was in the area at that time or who may have video footage of the incident, or circumstances leading up to it, to please come forward.”
