People are back in their homes in Illingworth, near Halifax, today (Sunday 31st December) after dozens were evacuated yesterday.

Police cleared an area around a home where a suspicious object had been found.

That was uncovered during an operation on Thursday at an address on Keighley Road.

It saw an army bomb disposal team called-in on Saturday morning - they safely destroyed the object.

Two men arrested on firearms offences remain in police custody in connection with the incident.

Inspector Ryan Stockton from West Yorkshire Police in Calderdale says, "I want to thank residents for their understanding and patience while this operation was carried out. I also want to apologise for any disruption it may have caused.

"The deployment of specialist resources may understandably have caused some concern, but it is entirely normal for them to attend in such operations in order to take every possible precaution to ensure public safety.

“A suspicious object found at the property has now been safely disposed of, and we are reviewing the cordon with an aim to take it down as soon as possible.

“Investigations will continue and two men who were arrested on suspicion of firearms offences remain in custody."
