Hundreds of School Kids Celebrate Rugby World Cup in Leeds

More than 600 primary school children from across the city welcomed the Rugby World Cup to Leeds today, with a special performance of the official theme song.

They sang World in Union to celebrate Leeds being chosen to host two matches this weekend. Some of the children also performed a rugby-themed dance incorporating some of the sport's key moves and techniques.

"I enjoyed it because we learnt different moves and we represent everything," says Billy, 11.

"I like rugby. I like how you work as a team and pass the ball."

Libby was another one of those taking part: "Because it's the rugby world cup and a few of the matches are coming to Leeds, we've been doing a big sing and big dance. It was really fun to get out of school and nice to come to Millennium Square to dance, because it's quite big here."

Millennium Square is home to the city's official Rugby World Cup Fanzone, where fans can enjoy food, drink, demonstrations and entertainment.

Elland Road will host two games as part of a weekend of rugby.

Italy plays Canada on September 26 at 2.30pm, while Scotland take on USA on September 27 at 2.30pm.

With capacity for up to 4,000 fans, the Fanzone will be open until October 10 and will show a number of live matches on the big screen.
