Huddersfield man becomes latest to be jailed over Harehills rioting
He'll serve 16 months for violent disorder
A Huddersfield man has been jailed for 16 months for his role in rioting in Harehills, north Leeds, last summer.
20 year old Samuel Gill of Oak Road is the 21st to be sentenced over the disorder which saw crowds confront police and a bus set alight.
He admitted to violent disorder which happened on the evening of July 18 2024.
76 people have so far been arrested as part of the investigation into the disorder, of which 35 have been charged.
Chief Superintendent Steve Dodds, of West Yorkshire Police, said: “Twenty one people have now been convicted as part of the force’s ongoing and wide-ranging investigation into the disorder on 18 and 19 July, which caused significant distress to communities.
“Our investigation very much remains ongoing and it is not too late for anyone who has information about other people involved who may so far not have come forwards, for whatever reason to do so.”
