Parking charges on some central streets in a Calderdale town are to be reduced from February 2026.

The changes – exactly which streets reductions will apply to have not yet been specified – will come in just less than a year after they were controversially hiked, but reductions will only apply to off-peak hours.

Last April, just weeks after Calderdale Council brought in a number of increases, business owners and residents lobbied councillors outside Halifax Town Hall about the decision.

Hebden Royd town councillors have also campaigned for their reduction.

Now Calderdale Cuncil has confirmed off-peak parking rates are due to apply to the central streets in Hebden Bridge from February 2026, between the hours of 8am and 10am, and from 4pm to 8pm.

The council says this is in recognition of people parking on these streets for short visits to the town.

The off-peak charge is half of the full charge, so will be 50p for 30 minutes and £1 for an hour, which is the maximum stay.

The notice to change the tariff is expected to be advertised in January 2026, which will confirm the exact start date for the changes, said the council.

On its Facebook page, Hebden Royd Town Council reported in the run-up to Christmas that Calderdale Council has approved a reduction, adding that exactly which streets this will apply to is still to be confirmed.

Hebden Bridge is town which is a big part of Calderdale’s tourism economy.

The on-street spaces in question were described as “premium” by Calderdale Council, the reason given for last year’s rises.
