A children's charity says there's a 'postcode lottery' in West Yorkshire when it comes to health care visits.

Kirklees has the lowest percentage when it comes to births that received a face to face New Birth Visit within 14 days by a Health Visitor – 27.9%.

On average in England nearly 90% are getting their first visit within 2 weeks.

Leeds (42%) and Kirklees (43%) are among the cities with the lowest percentage for infants who received a 6-8 week review by the time they were 8 weeks.

Louise Bazalgette from Nesta, a children's charity said:

"The check that happens between 2 and 2 years, is key in identifying if children are on tracks in terms of their development, and we're finding in Kirklees only a third of those checks are being completed and that compares to 83% in Bradford.

"It's making sure any children at greater risk like their language and communication, can be picked up through a health visit check.

"These early checks are there to reassure parents and check on development of babies and check everything's ok, so if you have that early visit, it's really important to reassure parents and pick up on any visits."
