Headingley Becomes House Of Fun For First Gig

10, 000 people are expected in Headingley later - for the very first music concert held at the cricket ground!

Madness will be the first band to perform there, eight months after the ground was granted permission to act as a live music venue.

Andy Dawson is commercial director at Yorkshire Cricket - he says "it's big and we had the one-day international on Friday, we had 16,500 people here, so a huge international event, and then to suddenly change that round in a couple of days, to prepare it for later this evening is a huge effort by the team here.

"We're assuming it's the first time for a lot of people at the venue so it's great to welcome some new people here to Headingley. I'm sure we'll be having a little dance later and joining in on the party!"

He adds it's been a long time in the planning....

"It started a long time ago because we wanted to make Headingley a multi-functional venue and we haven't had a concert here before so it's something we wanted to explore/. It's got a festival feel, the weather's fortunately dry so we look forward to a good and pleasant evening and we're confident people will have a good time!"
