West Yorkshire Police say they made a "handful" of arrests during a demonstration in Leeds following the stabbings in Southport.

Three young girls were killed in a knife attack at a dance class in the seaside town in Merseyside on Monday.

Police in Leeds say around 400 people gathered on the Headrow for a demonstration, and that it "passed largely without incident."

The force say it also made a "handful of arrests" as people left the protest, after reports of up to 12 males fighting in Millennium Square.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: "Enquiries are ongoing and police have made a handful of arrests in connection with the incident.

"Officers would like to thank all those who protested peacefully and allowed the wider public to go about their business unaffected."
