Green Light For £5million Leeds Cancer Support Centre

Cancer patients across Yorkshire are to benefit from a new multi-million pound centre based in Leeds, which will offer therapy, practical help and support groups.

The pioneering design comes complete with roof-top gardens and was drawn up by the man who created the 2012 Olympic Cauldron

It's one of many of Maggie's charity centres across the country. Louise Riley is from the Yorkshire branch.

"Maggie's Yorkshire will be the latest of our 18 centres that we currently have open throughout the UK and it will be a centre for the whole of the region - so for anyone affected by cancer throughout Yorkshire. In Leeds alone there's 12,500 new cancer diagnoses per year and many, many more throughout Yorkshire.

"They the centres feel a lot more like a home than a hospital. They're bright and uplifting spaces which can feel like a haven away from the sterility of the hospital itself. Inside our Maggie's centres , we deliver a program of support which is there for anyone affected by cancer at any time."

Building will start at St James's Hospital in 2017.
