A family business hit by Boxing Day floods on Kirkstall Road has been forced to close after 127 years.

Duffield Printers has survived World Wars, recessions and depressions - but when flood water rose above the machinery, it all had to be written off.

Owner Martyn Duffield was on his way to Australia to meet his wife when he got the phone call.

He couldn’t believe what he saw on his return:

“The water came above my knees. I just welled up, it was horrible just looking around and seeing the devastation, the whole place wrecked. There’s absolutely nothing left, nothing left whatsoever.”

All 27 staff have had to be made redundant but the majority have now found alternative employment.
