Five people have been rescued and given medical treatment after a high rise tower block fire in Leeds earlier today (Monday 1st October).

A 999 call was made just before 10.45 today to Cottingley Towers at Beeston where a flat on the 20th floor was alight.

The fire service say that the building's design meant the flames were prevented from spreading to the rest of the tower, exactly as planned, with crews able to quickly extinguish the fire.

Neighbours told Radio Aire this was the biggest evacuation that there's been at the towers where there've been several blazes in the past.
