Five arrested after large brawl in Chapeltown

Police are appealing for witnesses following a large braw in Saville Park, Chapeltown, Leeds.

Officers were called to Saville Park at about 8.18pm this evening (Sunday June 5) to reports of males and females fighting and, on attending, found a person who had been seriously assaulted on Back Saville Road.

The victim, a 30-year-old man, was taken to hospital for treatment to head injuries which are not life threatening.

Following enquiries officers arrested three male youths, a man and a woman on suspicion of violent disorder. All remain in custody this evening.

Detective Inspector James Entwistle of Leeds District CID, said: “At 8.18pm on Sunday 5th May 2016, police in Leeds received reports of a fight between a large number of people in Saville Park, Chapeltown. Officers attended within minutes and found one person with head injuries and several others with minor injuries. Police quickly regained order and five people have been arrested.

“A scene has been established on Back Saville Road and enquiries continue into the incident. We believe this was an isolated incident but would appeal for the public’s help and would like to appeal to anyone who has information in relation to the incident to ring Leeds CID.

“We’re particularly interested to hear from anyone who may have filmed what happened on their mobile phones.

“Police have increased patrols in the area to provide reassurance to the community.”
