Firefighters urge people to look out for friends near open water
It comes after a young man died on Monday in Leeds
Eight people have died after getting into difficulty in the water this year in West Yorkshire, sparking calls from West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue (WYFR) to remind people to look out for one another.
Christopher Bell is the Assistant District Commander of Kirklees: "If you're out drinking with friends or going on the river side, never do it alone. Stay with your friends if you're walking home, stick together and if anything happens someone can raise the alarm".
Earlier this week a 29-year-old man was pulled from the River Aire.
Marcus Castle's family have started a fundraising page for his funeral, where they say he fell after his Christmas party in Leeds.
In the Go Fund Me they called Marcus a "beautiful boy".
