Fire At Harehills Pakistani Centre
Police don't know if it's suspicious yet
Police investigating a fire at the Pakistani Community Centre in Harehills on Friday night (1st July) say they don't know yet if it's suspicious. The blaze broke out around 8.45pm at the building which is next to the Bilal mosque on Conway Road. Nobody was hurt in the fire, but it's understood that the building has been badly damaged.
Chief Inspector Fran Naughton from West Yorkshire Police said, "We would like to reassure people that the situation is now under control and the fire service are damping down at the scene. The cause of the fire will be investigated by the fire service with the support of the police but it is too early to say whether the cause is suspicious.
"We are liaising with the centre's management and we will continue to do all we can to minimise any disruption to the local community."
