Fire crews from West Yorkshire and Greater Manchester have spent the night tackling a fire on Marsden Moor.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said they were dealing with two lines of fire, each around a mile long.

Around 60 firefighters were at the scene near Cupwith Reservoir on Wednesday, and are expected to remain there throughout Thursday.

It's been confirmed the fire has now been extinguished.

Second fire in a week

It's the second fire to break out on Marsden Moor in the space of a week.

The previous fire took place at Pule Hill on 18 March, while the latest blaze started at about 15:15 on Wednesday.

Two wildfire units from Greater Manchester were brought over, to help West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue deal with the blaze.

The National Trust tweeted to remind people not to light BBQs, campfires or set off fireworks on the moors.

They said the area is "very vulnerable" to fires after a long period of dry weather.

Pictures posted on social media show the fire raging well into the night.

Sharing a photo on Twitter at around midnight, Sue Kilcoyne said it "looked like firefighers are going to be there all night".

Lynne Oliver shared a video from here garden, showing a bright red glow over the hills on Marsden Moor.
