Fire crews in West Yorkshire urging people not to take naked flames to beauty spots as they tackle moorland fires
Fire crews in West Yorkshire are reminding people not to take anything that could cause a blaze onto the moors or beauty spots, as the nice weather continues
As the blue skies and sunshine continues across West Yorkshire, fire crews are reminding people not to take anything that could cause a blaze onto beauty spots.
It's after already this week, West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue (WYFR) have been tackling moorland fires.
They are urging people to 'Be Moor Aware' and also reminding them that the use of barbecues, campfires and smoking is prohibited.
Richard Hawley is the Lead Wildfire Officer for WYFR, said: "This week we're seeing very fire supportive weather, we've got some strong winds that we're seeing, nice warm sunny weather but, with that lovely weather and that nice place to go out in the countryside, it does bring it's own risks.
"We're regularly seeing wildfires across the region."
Last year the fire service tackled many moorland fires too. Richard said: "It's also somebody's livelihood, a lot of the land is managed, whether its for farming whether it's for private enterprise or conservation.
"An irresponsible use of a naked flame that causes a fire, it's damaging that business, it's damaging the wildlife, it can cause significant lasting damage."
