Man dead after crash following police chase near Normanton

West Yorkshire Police has referred itself to the policing regulator following the collision last night

A man has died after a crash involving a car that was being chased by police in the early hours of this morning near Normanton.

Police started to pursue the black Audi A7 at 1:26am after it failed to stop.

It went along Ferry Lane towards Altofts, before crossing a bridge and hitting a fence on Birkwood Road.

The driver, a man in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger, a man in his 30s, was taken to hospital and has since been arrested.

West Yorkshire Police has referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct following the crash.

Anyone with information is being urged to contact officers on 101.
