Extensive damage to wildlife and nature after fire on Marsden Moor
The national trust says many bird eggs have been burnt in the fire at Marsden Moor
The National Trust says many bird eggs have been burnt in the fire at Marsden Moor.
Crews were first called to the scene at 7pm Sunday night, and was a mile long at it's height.
10 from West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue were in attendance.
The countryside manager for the National Trust in West Yorkshire, Craig Best understands the fire was started by a couple using fireworks.
He said:
"We are really upscaling patrols with rangers, so when we do see a fire we report it immediately, but were also available to have a friendly conversation with people who maybe do bring a BBQ and don't realise the dangers.
"We invest millions of pounds to re-wet the moor, it won't stop people setting fires, but when they start, it could possibly reduce the extent and impact on the peak soils."
