Communities in West Yorkshire are 'excited' to spend Diwali with friends and family, after the pandemic restricted celebrations last year.

Last years lockdown meant the five-day festival of lights, celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs and Jains, was restricted to household and family bubbles.

This year, people will be able to meet again.

Indu Dhari from the Indian's women community in Bradford said the restrictions impacted on many:

"Especially the elderly ladies, because they look forward to going to the temple, family members coming to meet them and I noticed a lot of them were looking down and depressed."

Celebration start today, 4th November 2021, Indu continued:

"This year is a special year, most of the community are doing a lot of shopping, because they can get together, buying clothes, making food.

"Teach your kids how to be kind to other people, not to take advantage of things, it teaches you that we should appreciate things while we have them and that good always wins over evil."
