New Electric Vehicle (EV) charging points will be rolled out across Kirklees, with more than 20 locations confirmed.

The move comes as part of a multi-million pound investment in the shape of the Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) Fund, with just under £2.5m allocated to Kirklees from the government. Further cash from private providers will take the total earmarked for Kirklees to around £3.8m.

The first installations are expected to begin later this year, with ‘phase one’ of the scheme covering installation at the following 23 areas:

Springwood, Spring Wood Street, Huddersfield

New Street Car Park, Lupton Square, Honley

New Way Long Stay Car Park, Batley

High Street Car Park, Birstall

Camroyd Street Car Park, Dewsbury

Further expansion into on-street locations is planned for later phases of the scheme, with this to be delivered in 2026/27.

Councillor Moses Crook, Deputy Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Transport and Highways, said: “As electric vehicles become more popular, the LEVI funding and private investment enables us to vastly improve the charging infrastructure in Kirklees.

“This pilot scheme is a critical step in making electric vehicles more accessible. We know that many households without off-street parking are currently limited if they have an electric vehicle. These new chargers mean that if someone wants to make the switch to an electric vehicle, it will be a more practical option.”
