A man from Hebden Bridge had an eye watering surprise when he opened a cheque from Northern Powergrid for 2 trillion 324 billion pounds.

The energy company sent the refund, after Gareth Hughes' power was cut-off during Storm Arwen.

A tweet, showing a picture of the cheque has now gone viral.

Writing to the company on twitter, Gareth said:

"Thank you for our compensation payment for the several days we were without power following storm Arwen.

"Before I bank the cheque however, are you 100% certain you can afford this?"

Northern Powergrid responded just hours later on the social media platform, asking for more details to 'correct this oversight'.

Mr Hughes is now urging the supplier to check what other payments they've made, saying he's aware of at least four other cheques for the same value sent to neighbouring properties.
