'It's A Dream Come True' For Leeds MOBO Nominee

A teacher and musician in Leeds says it's a 'dream come true' to be nominated for the MOBO awards this year.

Leroy Johnson is up for the Best Gospel award - ahead of the ceremony here in the city in November - and he's very excited about it.

"Absolutely off the chain. Ecstatic! I'm looking forward to a great event and let's hope I can do this for Leeds and Yorkshire - this is what I'm doing it for. I could have gone to London years ago, on many occasions but no, I'm sticking to my roots and it seems like it's paid off. Even if it's only a nomination it's paid off."

"I've contributed to many an artist, I've played with Five, All Saints, Brian May, Gloria Gaynor, I've been used to meeting them supporting them because they're in the limelight. But now it's my turn to be in the limelight and it's so strange!"

The 2015 Mobo Awards, now in its 20th year, will take place at Leeds' First Direct Arena and will be broadcast live on ITV2 - with huge stars expected to walk the red carpet.

But Leroy's planning to keep it simple.

"It was big enough it coming to Leeds but for me to be a part of it, it's a dream come true. I can just get a bus to it! I was kind of looking forward to hiring a limo, rolling up at the red carpet with a tuxedo and everything. Nah, I'll just get on the number 50 bus or something!"

Leroy's album 'Let The Sunshine' is out now.
