Dog Owners Urged To Bag It And Bin It
Leeds City Council have launched a new neighbourhood watch type scheme in Garforth to prevent dog fouling.
Over 900 complaints were made last year, and Eric Gale is one volunteer that's had enough.
"Kids play football, the ball goes over there, they end up standing in it.. It's all down the paths all down the guinnels and it's done early in a morning or late at night.
"You can't blame the dogs - it's irresponsible owners that are taking the dogs out. I mean, people are taking the dog excrement, putting it in a bag and throwing it into the trees! It's just disgusting!"
He's confident the scheme will work
"If you fine a few people then the word'll get round and I think when we get these signs up it should make people more aware that people are there and watching."
There'll be a number of volunteers that'll give the council information when they see people failing to pick up after their dog, so that the wardens can investigate.
They're hoping that the thought of being reported will reduce the number of complaints about dog fouling.
