Christmas events planned for Bradford's new Darley Street Market

The new city centre market opened this Summer - and has a packed line up of events for its first Christmas

A FOUR-day Christmas market and screenings of festive classics like the Snowman and Home Alone are among the highlights of the Christmas season at Darley Street Market.

The new city centre market opened this Summer, and has a packed line up of events for its first Christmas, including brass band performances and craft workshops.

The final Real Market of the year takes place on Saturday (December 6), with the Christmas market starting on Sunday (December 7).

The festive market then continues the following Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

It will feature over twenty-five unique traders over the four markets including gifts, garlands, homewares, candles, prints, food, mulled wine, hot chocolate and other drinks.

The stalls will be on top of the sixty regular traders throughout the building.

The regular live music at Darley Street Market continues every Friday and Saturday – and other days – with artists including Joanna Klu, Darren Ellis, Flash Cassette, Sarah Jane Widdup, Groovers In the Heart, I N T A, James Spencer, Wino, and wrapping up the year with a DJ set from Fatboy Slenderman.

There will also be pop-up live music throughout December in the Courtyard including Bradford Cathedral Choir, Queensbury Music Centre (brass band), Bratwurst Brass, Bradford Rock Choir, Bradford Belles, Shipley Community Youth Choir, a Jazz Duo, Jez Barraclough, the Anchor Big Band, Peace Artistes, Queensbury Singers, Bradford Voices, Amber Lights Performing Arts, Shipley Recorders, The Regenerated, and the Salvation Army Band.

Workshops at the market also running throughout December include creating recycled Christmas crafts, make your own wreath, bauble building, a festive-themed food workshop, make your own Christmas animation, a Motanka doll Rudolph reindeer workshop, a Winter Wonderlands – terrariums and create your own artwork at a Paint, Sup and Sing session.

On the first three Saturdays of December children will be able to visit Santa in Darley Street Market or in his Courtyard grotto where there will be chocolate for children as well as free face-painting.

Festive characters from the Bloomin’ Buds Theatre Company will be entertaining the crowds and taking part in an Elf Hunt where people can find the mischievous elves hiding around the Market on Saturday 13 and 20 December.

Other highlights at Darley Street Market throughout December include ‘Buy a Beanie, Give A Beanie’ (HBUK sale), Billy’s Bus – a dog bus trip service; Call My Quaff – a wine and cheese tasting afternoon with Roswitha’s Deli; a festive food tour of the market for adults; and a cheese making workshop (halloumi & ricotta) with Razan Alsous from the Yorkshire Dama Cheese Company. There will also be Pub Carols with Fountains Church.

Christmas films showing on the big screen in the Courtyard at Darley Street Market will be The Snowman and Home Alone.

There will be extended opening hours at the Market through the festive season, with all three floors open on Sunday 6, 13 and 21 December as well as extended trading hours on Thursdays in December.
