Leeds City Council has paid 25,000 council tax rebates twice, in an error costing £3.75 million.

It relates to an £150 payment, that's being offered to households in bands A to D to help with rising living costs.

The council said the "payment file" was processed twice after it was initially rejected by the bank.

It has apologised for "any confusion or inconvenience" and has confirmed the money will be recovered in the coming days.

In a statement, the local authority said it was "working with the bank" to make sure the error is rectified as soon as possible.

Customers have been urged to check their accounts, and "be aware" that the money will be coming back out.

The council said it's "working hard" to get payments out "as fast as possible" and 120,000 had been given out correctly, so far.
