Chapel Allerton to lose Natwest branch and ATM next month
It's one of the only remaining banks inside the Leeds suburb
A high street bank will be shut down next month as part of a string of branch closures by NatWest.
Chapel Allerton will lose its Harrogate Road branch of the bank, along with a cash machine.
The bank is one of 53 to cease operating nationwide and will close on April 30.
The suburb has already lost its branches of Yorkshire Bank and HSBC, which closed in 2017 and 2021 respectively.
Permission has been sought from Leeds City Council for alterations to the NatWest building following the closure.
The existing ATM, external night safe and signs would be removed, along with public counters and digital displays inside.
A planning report said: “The proposal is to decommission the building as a bank and leave it in a good state of repair for selling on or returning to the landlord where appropriate.”
Tate Stevenson Architects Ltd, working for NatWest, said the minimal alterations would retain the building’s original features.
The report said: “Internally, all rooms will be cleared of loose furniture signage and marketing removed.
“Public counters, internal automation machines will also be removed and repairs carried out to any damaged surfaces affected by the works.”
Natwest confirmed that the cash machine would not be replaced. The nearest alternative ATM is at the nearby Tesco Express.
