CCTV Image Released After Attack on Taxi Driver

Published 7th Sep 2015

British Transport Police investigating a violent attack on a taxi driver outside Leeds train station have released an image of a man they believe can help with their enquiries.

It happened at 11.30 pm on Saturday, 16 August, by the taxi rank outside the front of the station. PC Thomas Rushman, the investigating officer, said: “Four men attempted to climb into a taxi which wasn’t in the designated rank outside the station. When the driver, a 50-year-old man from Bradford, explained this and asked them to leave the car they became offensive and abusive towards him and began spitting on the car. “The driver refused to take the group and got out of the car. At this point one of the men punched him in the face. He fell to the ground and hit his head on the floor, losing consciousness for a short time. The group then left and headed towards the city centre. “This was completely unprovoked, violent behaviour towards a man who was simply trying to do his job. Please contact us if you recognise the man pictured as we believe he may be able to help our enquiry into this unacceptable attack.” Anyone with information should call British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40 or via text on 61016.
