Castleford Tigers sack head coach Danny McGuire
Castleford have sacked head coach Danny McGuire after less than a year in charge of the struggling Betfred Super League club.
Chairman Martin Jepson took the decision in the wake of Thursday's "hugely disappointing" 30-12 home defeat to Huddersfield, one of only two teams below them in the table.
Castleford director of rugby Chris Chester will take over on an interim basis while a successor is identified.
A Castleford statement read:
"It has been a challenging season, but in particular, the result and performance in last week's game against Huddersfield were hugely disappointing for me and everybody involved with the club.
"The board felt that a change of direction was therefore needed.
"I would like to put on record my thanks to Danny for his hard work at the club over the past two years, both as an assistant and head coach, and I wish him well in the future."
McGuire, 42, took over from Craig Lingard in October but his side made a poor start to the campaign and were beaten at Championship club Bradford in the Challenge Cup.
