Appeal after HGV driver dies after hitting M62 bridge

The motorway was closed for hours on Tuesday after a car transporter hit a bridge

The driver of a car transporter has died after his vehicle hit a bridge on the M62 on Tuesday evening.

The motorway was closed in both directions from around 2.30 on October 11 after the crash between juctions 33 and 34, near to Ferrybridge Services.

Police have confirmed the 31-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene and no other vehicles were invovled in the crash.

A structural engineer was called out to inspect the overbridge, and the motorway was reopened on Tuesday night.

North Yorkshire Police is now appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward.

Anyone with any dash camera footage from the incident is asked to save a copy and contact the police.
