The Yeadon community have started a campaign to save the primary school.

Vicky Lancaster is a parent who's children go to this school, and previously attended the school.

She's trying to stop the closure and told us: "I know as a parent of a send (special education needs and disabilities) child, because my eldest who's about to turn 13 actually attended this school and he's got autism now, this school helped me with getting him diagnosed.

"How I feel towards this school goes deep it's just not a school to me, it's a lot more which is why I'm fighting so hard."

Head teacher Mark Duce said: "The issue is, if we close the school and a few years time there's a need for the school, what happens then.

"We'll have an empty building and essentially do they open Queensway, but Queensway won't be the same once it's closed.

Well Leeds City Council told us: “In recent years the Guiseley and Yeadon areas have seen a significant drop in the numbers of children being born, and there are several primary schools across the area with surplus places. We want schools to have sustainable numbers for the future so that they can meet the needs of their learners.

“As part of a wider plan to manage places across the area, we will be asking the local community for their views on a proposal to permanently close Queensway Primary School.

"A four week consultation started on Monday 26 September and during this time, anyone with an interest in school places in the area will be able to find out more, ask questions and share their views with us.

“The Queensway school community has been informed about the proposal and we are encouraging them to take part in the consultation to help shape important next steps.”

“We understand that parents and carers will have questions about what might happen, and we will be supporting them with information about this during the consultation.”

Vicky told us demonstrations will be happening often, including next Tuesday when a march will take place in protest.
