Burglar caught hiding in care home bathroom in Leeds jailed
He was apprehended by staff at the home in Armley
A burglar has been jailed for almost four years after being caught red handed in a bathroom belonging to a patient at a Leeds care home.
Leeds Crown Court heard how 42 year old Mark Ambler, of no fixed address, used wire cutters to break into the home in Armley through a downstairs window.
Staff at the care home managed to apprehend Ambler, who was also found in possession of Class A drugs.
He admitted to burglary and possession of a Class A drug and has been sentenced to three years nine months behind bars.
Detective Inspector Vicky Vessey, of West Yorkshire Police, said: “Ambler is a prolific offender who broke into the room of this elderly victim in the middle of the night at a care home for vulnerable people.
“Fortunately, the victim was not disturbed by him as she slept, and thanks to the vigilance of the staff, he was caught and detained.
“We know this was a distressing incident for the victim’s family and for staff at the home, and we hope they can take some comfort from knowing Ambler is now safely behind bars.”
