Bridgewater Place Wind Closures Back Tonight

Rush hour travel chaos in city centre as key routes shut

Published 9th Jan 2015

Roads around Yorkshire's tallest building were closed this morning, because of the strong winds - and we're being told they will be AGAIN for this evening's rush hour.

The closure plan which was put in place after the death of Dr Edward Slaney in March 2011 has been actioned this morning and with a forecast of more strong wind this evening, it'll be back in operation from 5pm (Fri 9th Jan) until late morning on Saturday. It involves the complete closure of Water Lane approaching the junction with Neville Street and the section of Neville Street alongside the skyscraper.

Leeds City Council has been using gritter lorries to create the roadblocks, the knock-on effect of the closures is huge difficulties and delays for traffic trying to get around the city. This morning's closure was lifted just before 10am, but will be reinstated at 5pm on Friday evening and will last until around 11am on Saturday morning.
