A “HANDSOME” Victorian park lodge owned by Bradford Council will be sold at auction later this month.

The Prince of Wales Park Lodge in Bingley will have a guide price of £160,000 when it goes under the hammer at a Pugh online property auction.

The building is described as requiring “a full refurbishment” but one that could easily be “restored to its former glory.”

The park lodge, which dates back to the 1880s, is one of over 150 assets being disposed of by Bradford Council has part of a large sale sell off to help balance its budget.

Last year the Council was granted “extraordinary financial support” to tackle its huge budget deficit.

This support allows the Council to use money from the sale of assets to help fund its day to day running costs, such as social care and bin collections.

Usually, income from asset sales can only be used by Councils for other capital schemes.

The park lodge was due to be sold at auction earlier this year, but the lot was withdrawn.

It is now listed in an online property auction that will begin on November 25.

Other Council owned properties to be listed at the same auction include a four-acre site off Green Lane in Thornton, a house on Rupert Street, Lawkholme that has stood empty after being gutted by fire in 2010 and two Council owned car parks in the Little Germany area.

Referring to the Prince of Wales Park lodge, Pugh director Will Thompson said: “The house requires a full interior refurbishment and modernisation, but with a good amount of TLC it could be a fantastic and quite unique home once again.

“Not only is it a handsome, stone-built property but it’s actually located within the park itself and surrounded by greenery, which is pretty special, and it has its own spacious gardens too. It would be great to see it restored to its former glory in the hands of a new owner.

“Bingley itself is a sought-after residential area, regularly topping the ‘best places to live’ polls. The neighbourhood surrounding the lodge house is mainly residential, with schools, cafés and shops close by.

“Meanwhile Bingley town centre is just a mile to the west, offering supermarkets, rail connections and many more services, while Bradford city centre is around seven miles away and accessible by road or direct train from Bingley Station.”
