A man from Bradford has been jailed for two years after beating a dog with a broom, leading to the animal needing a leg amputation.

Caesar - a German Shepherd-type - was taken to a vet after he was found tied to a fence in September 2022.

Brian Hughes, 42 and from Lister Avenue, was sentenced at Bradford Crown Court on Thursday (15 February) after being found guilty at a trial.

Caesar has since made a full recovery

The RSPCA said Caesar made an "amazing recovery" and is now with a new family.

Inspector Jo Hartley, who investigated for the RSPCA, said: “Caesar was in a bad way when he arrived in our care and he had been so badly injured that he needed his leg amputated.

“We’re really grateful to everyone who helped in our investigation.

"Caesar has now got a second chance at life and he is a happy boy now.”
