Bradford GP concerned covid numbers will continue to rise
Restrictions were eased on the 19th July
A Bradford GP tells us he's concerned that coronavirus numbers will continue to rise, as people mix more freely.
The government has launched a new campaign to remind the public of the importance of continuing health behaviours to reduce the spread of COVID-19 as restrictions in England are eased:
Dr Amir Khan, a Bradford GP said:
"We're seeing an increase in hospital admissions, even though it's a small increase compared to the winter peak, we are still seeing a definite increase, and the vast majority haven't had both their vaccines or either of their vaccines.
"Already I've seen increased numbers of consultations from people who have covid and people who are getting seriously sick from covid.
"My sister works in the A&E in our local hospital and she's noticed a mark increase of people attending A&E with covid symptoms.
"It's really worrying to see, as someone who cares about patients and people and just these simple things will reduce people's risk of going into hospital."
New research shows that whilst over half of adults in England (56%) are glad about the new freedom that restrictions easing brings, nearly nine in 10 (86%) hope that people will proceed with caution.
More than three quarters say that they will continue to wear face masks when in crowded spaces, almost half will continue to check in to venues using the NHS Covid-19 app and eight in 10 (81%) will practice social distancing where possible.
Among those who said they would continue with at least one of these actions, three quarters (74%) said they are doing so to help protect others, whilst 63% say it’s respectful to other people who may feel more nervous about the lifting of restrictions.
