A 15-year-old has been injured outside a school in Tingley, after being approached by a man and hit over the head with an unknown object.

Police were called to Woodkirk Academy just after 3pm yesterday (Wednesday 14th March) after getting reports that a teenager had been assaulted outside the school.

He received treatment in hospital for a cut and was later released.

Investigations into the incident are continuing.

Darren Currie, Vice Principal and Designated Safeguard Lead at the school has told us: "We are aware of an incident outside school yesterday, and Woodkirk Academy are liaising closely with the police.

"This is self contained incident and we would like to reassure parents there is no wider risk to students, staff or the local community."
