Boxer Josh Warrington Launches Leeds 10k

European featherweight boxing champion Josh Warrington officially launched the event Leeds 10K today.

And Leeds-born Josh, a former John Smeaton High School pupil who is rapidly becoming the city’s favourite sporting son, will be among the thousands of entrants who will line up on the start line on Sunday July 12.

Organised by Run For All, the flagship event is part of the lasting legacy of the late Jane Tomlinson CBE who raised almost £2m for charity through a series of endurance challenges, despite being diagnosed with incurable cancer.

The Leeds 10K has raised well over £2m since it was first held in 2007.

Josh, who is known as “The Leeds Warrior” and is immensely proud of his home city, said: “It’s great to be part of such a wonderful event and I’m really looking forward to doing the run.

“Jane showed great courage and determination and this event, which generates a tremendous atmosphere and does so much to help many good causes, is a fitting tribute to her memory.”

Revamped in 2013, the route is now faster and flatter. It starts in Vicar Lane, takes the runners out and back along Kirkstall Road and ends in front of the Town Hall.
