Plans to improve railway lines between West Yorkshire and the North West will introduce the legislation for the next phase of HS2 today (24 January) in Parliament.
It will improve infrastructure between Marsden, Manchester and Warrington.
It's part of the government's new HS2 plans- which sparked outrage last November- when the line to Leeds was scrapped.
The Transport Secretary insists he's "determined" to improve connections across the country.
However, there have been mixed reviews on the decision for the high speed rail link to be extended.
Environmental activists are planning a “national day of action” to protest against the expansion of the HS2 high-speed railway – as the Bill for the project is laid out in Parliament today (24 January).
Meanwhile, Transport Secretary Grant Shapps talked about the "landmark moment":
"We are determined to improve transport connections and level up communities across the country, and this bill marks a landmark moment as we bring HS2 to Manchester and lay the foundations for Northern Powerhouse Rail."
