Big Plans for Redevelopment of Leeds Dock

Published 23rd Jan 2015

The people behind the re-development of Leeds Dock say they've got big plans for the year. The residential and commercial site, formally known as Clarence Dock, is hosting its third market this weekend, this time with a health theme.

Tim Gee from Allied told us: "We always have a theme and we felt in January the most appropriate one was a get fit theme, after many of us enjoyed ourselves a bit too much at Christmas. "So the food is primarily focussed on healthier items and Primal Gym, our partner down here, will be doing body MOTs and fitness challenges, with free membership on offer. It's just way of making it fun and ensuring people actually start thinking about their health rather than just talking about it as we all do in January." Allied London, who also own Spinningfields in Manchester, are planning big things for Leeds Dock, after previous attempts to rejuvenate the area fell flat. Tim told us: "We started our workspace redevelopment programme at the beginning of the year. We've taken some of the ground floor space and we're converting it into this boutique studio-style workspace, which we're confident will be the most exciting place to work in Leeds, if not regionally. "We're also creating a great deal of garden space now to relieve everyone from the concrete and to just bring some nature and life to the site and we're also starting our restaurant boardwalk, which will be the outdoor seating area for our 4-7 restaurant units." The market runs between 10am and 4pm on both Saturday and Sunday. Stallholders include Olley & Olley, Neil’s Veg Boxes, Owl Creative and All The Tea In China. Leeds Juicery will be providing fresh juices and giving talks for some juicing inspiration. Visitors can also get a lift in on a free Dutch water taxi from city centre, running from 10am - 6pm every Friday, Saturday & Sunday.
