Published 20th Jul 2015

Police are appealing for information after an arson attack on a derelict school building in Leeds.

At about 6pm on Saturday (18/7) the offenders broke into the old Upper Wortley Primary School building, in Ashley Road, Wortley, and started a fire which spread throughout the listed building causing a large amount of damage. A second derelict building within the grounds was also set on fire.

Detective Constable Rob Miller, of Leeds District CID, said: "Substantial damage has been caused and fire service investigators have confirmed that the fires have been started deliberately.

"The building has been derelict for a number of years but was recently bought by a developer. We are conducting enquiries to trace whoever was responsible and would like to hear from anyone who saw anyone in the area around the time of the incident or who has any information that could assist the investigation."

Anyone with information is asked to contact DC 6397 Miller at Elland Road via 101 or call the independent crime-fighting charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
