A memorial fund for murdered Leeds teacher Ann Maguire will help young people pursue their talents.

From today, people aged 11- 18 can apply for grants of up to £500 to develop skills in the performing arts.

Mrs Maguire - who was killed by a pupil at Corpus Christie Catholic College - was said to have had a gift for identifying potential in her students. In her honour, the fund was set up to continue her work by enabling and developing the aspirations of young people.

Grants are available for individuals living in Leeds who have a talent in drama, singing, instrumental music or dance, and can demonstrate that their personal circumstances prevent them from fully developing their skills.

That might be because of their financial circumstances or health reasons.

The fund is also open for Leeds-based community groups who provide activities for talented young people meeting the criteria above.

The application process opens today and closes on Friday 30 January 2015. Depending on available funding further grants rounds will be launched later in 2015.
