A zebra crossing which went viral after CCTV filmed a series of near misses in West Yorkshire is set to get traffic lights.

The footage of the crossing on Horton Grange Road in Bradford has been viewed millions of times online.

Local residents, as well as businesses owners around the area have been campaigning for the lights , saying it's too "dangerous".

Local shopkeeper Mohammed Haleem told us: "It's difficult for us to see, whoever see's the video footage it's difficult for them to view and yet we see it live, it's more or less happening every day."

Mohammed told us why he think's so many crashes happen here: "I think because it's a busy road, and to be honest with you, people don't really judge the speed at which they're approaching the zebra crossing itself."

A Bradford Council spokesperson said: “We are pleased to say plans are now in place to convert the crossing to a signalled crossing.

“We visited the site with local councillors to refine existing plans and consider how sufficient funding could be identified.

"Detailed design work is now taking place after funding was secured from this year’s Safer Roads programme with support from Bradford West Area Committee and we successfully completed the legal promotion of the proposal.

“We expect the new crossing to be working before the end of the financial year.”
