A-level results: Teacher assessments an 'improvement from last year'
Thousands of young people across West Yorkshire will receive their A-level results today
Last updated 10th Aug 2021
This morning, thousands of students across the region will be picking up their A-level results.
This year, they've been based on teacher assessments, which includes mock exams and work throughout the past academic year.
If any students want to appeal their grades, they can do so on two bases. One is because of administrational problems like work being lost, or to discuss a teacher's judgement.
"Just smile and think I did my best, I did my absolute best."
Sally Kincaid from Wakefield National Education Union said:
"It's an improvement on last year, on the algorithm, I think there's better ways of doing it, but we are where we are. It's been a very, very hard year for students, staff and parents.
"If you can appeal, appeal, but if you can't look at something else. Sometimes random things come out don't they, sometimes you find you like something you didn't expect to like 6 months a year ago, and don't get disheartened, you tried your best at that very moment.
"Fight to do the course you think you can. Life is a long way forward so you can always try and do something else as well. Just smile and think I did my best, I did my absolute best."
Sally told us that moving forward, we can learn a lot from the past year in education:
"Trust teachers, we know our pupils, we know how well they're doing, what their weaknesses are. Exams they're not the best are they? You're sat in a hall trying to remember what Mr Smith told you way back in October, moving forward I don't think we should go back to the same old with exams."
