40% increase in students going through clearing at Leeds Beckett University
Students received their A-level results yesterday (10th August)
Students across West Yorkshire found out their A-level results yesterday (10th August).
Grades were at a record high ,with students receiving more As and A-stars than ever before.
And it appears the number of people applying to University through clearing also rocketed, with around 1 thousand people calling Leeds Beckett University between 8:30am and 10:30am.
That's a 40 percent increase from the previous year.
Tracey Lancaster, the vice chancellor said:
"I think it could well be linked to the fact that the pupils themselves have had such a disruptive year, you know spent 75% of their time spent studying this year has been in a way they didn't anticipate, they didn't know until Easter how they were going to be assessed, it's been a hugely disruptive year.
"They were making decisions much later than in previous years, so I think they've had that decision making period a little bit more compressed, so maybe they are taking that time to just re-think their options as they should, so they end up on a course that's going to give them the opportunities they're looking for."
It's hoped in the upcoming academic year that face to face teaching will take place at universities.
She continued:
"We're hoping, expecting, planning and we've got people on campus at the moment preparing to open our campus again. Obviously if local public health need us to shut down for any reason, we've got a plan B so we can switch back to some level of online."
