David Bowie, The Who, John Cale Pay Tribute To Lou Reed
The music legend died aged 71 yesterday
David Bowie, The Who and John Cale are among the musicians that have paid tribute to Lou Reed who died yesterday aged 71.
The former Velvet Underground star had been ill for some months and, according to his literary agent, eventually lost his life to a “liver-related ailment.”
In a post on his official website, David Bowie paid homage to his close friend and musical collaborator calling him “a master.”
Reed’s former Velvet Underground bandmate John Cale poignantly wrote: "The world has lost a fine songwriter and poet…I’ve lost my ‘school-yard buddy’”
In homage to Lou’s massive hit ‘Walk on the Wild Side’, fellow music giants The Who tweeted: “R.I.P. Lou Reed. Walk on the peaceful side.”
Metallica, who collaborated with Lou Reed on their critically panned 2011 album ‘Lulu’, posted a photo of themselves with Lou on their official Facebook page.
Elsewhere, Chic frontman Nile Rodgers said on Twitter: "Lou Reed, R.I.P. I did the Jools Holland show with him last year and we yucked it up. I didn't know he was ill."
Other Twitter tributes came from Kings of Leon’s Nathan Followill, who simply wrote: “RIP Lou Reed.”
Weezer said: “R.I.P Lou Reed - VU was a big influence when weezer was being formed, and Ric Ocasek told us cool stories of his friendship with him.”
Pixies simply wrote: “R.I.P. LOU REED....A LEGEND”
