Roundhay Park, Leeds
Roundhay Park is around four miles from Leeds and one of the top choices for the city. With 700 acres to explore, the popular location is ideal for laying out a picnic blanket. Once the sandwiches have been eaten and the drinks supped, it is fun for all the family at top attraction Tropical World or the kids can release that excess energy in the extensive parkland consisting of woodland, adventure trails, lakes and even grab another refreshment at the park’s numerous cafés.

Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Wakefield
With designated picnic spots, Yorkshire Sculpture Park in West Bretton, Wakefield is probably the quirkiest spot in West Yorkshire to chomp down on your sandwiches. Art enthusiasts and families alike will enjoy this open-air art gallery located on the 18th-Century estate of Bretton Park. Mesmerising sculptures, landscapes and quality time with the family while educating them… what more could you want?

East Riddlesden Hall, Keighley
Is there a grander picnic spot than a 17th-century manor house? Owned by the National Trust, East Riddlesden Hall is in Keighley 11 miles from the bustling city of Bradford. There are picturesque picnic options galore on the grounds, from pitching up on the lawns or maybe views of the River Aire on the lower fields is your choice. Once your picnic has been consumed there is plenty to be seen at this historic house; the discovery garden is perfect for the children to craft and create from the leaves and sticks they find while the charming tea-room has many choices for the adults.

Nostell Priory and Parkland, Wakefield
Another awe-inspiring National Trust location is Nostell Priory and Parkland. Just outside of Wakefield, there are 300 acres to explore and many options to chow down on a delicious picnic. Treat your senses to an abundance of colour in the wildflower meadows or the secluded Menagerie Garden, sit peacefully beside the parkland’s lakes or sprawl your blanket out at Sheep Wash Field or Hardwick Beck. Greenhead Park certainly lives up to its name as it is one of the largest parks in Huddersfield. Green space a plenty, making it the perfect spot for munching a scotch egg or two. Once food has been consumed, the conservatory and park café offer a change of scenery for the adults while a handful of playgrounds will keep the younger ones entertained with a zip wire, play tower, swings and much more for fun filled hours.

This mouth dropping grade I country house can be found a short drive from Leeds. Harewood has a bird garden and farm experience amongst its buckets of history set in over 100 acres of beautiful gardens; nothing screams picnic more than this grand, quintessentially British setting.

Pugneys Country Park, Wakefield
Pugneys has something for all the family and is a top choice in Wakefield for a picnic and exploring. There are many greens spaces to throw down a blanket or why not tackle the hill up to Sandal Castle and take in the mesmerising view of the park from above. For those with restless little ones there is the pirate adventure playground, Pugneys Light Railway or the Blown Away Adventure trail based on the children’s book by local author Conrad Burdekin.
