Halifax MP is calling on the government to tighten the rules around hiring supercars
Holly Lynch is proposing changes to the law including putting black boxes into supercars
Today (24th February) Halifax MP, Holly Lynch, is proposing law changes in the House of Commons, which would see the rules tightened around hiring supercars, to stop them being driven recklessley.
During lockdown, it's become less of an issue, however the MP has continued her work with people in West Yorkshire, West Yorkshire Police and the local authority to resolve the issue.
"We're calling time up really on those who want to get behind the wheel of a car and drive recklessly."
The law changes would mean that any rental car over 300 horsepower would require a black box, which would record details of how and when the car was used.
The driver would need to show an explicit insurance cover for the specific vehicle they want to hire.
People have taken to social media, talking about their own experiences:
Holly Lynch said:
"There's nothing wrong with driving this type of car, so long as you're experienced, you have insurance and you can do that safely, we're calling time up really on those who want to get behind the wheel of a car and drive recklessly.
"Hire car companies need to play their part, in making sure that when they hand over the keys for these types of cars, that they've done everything to remove any risk from that.
"We need to make sure we are not just keeping the driver safe, but any pedestrians, other road users, who might be at danger."
The bill has been back by South Yorkshire's Mayor, Dan Jarvis and Labour's candidate for the Mayor of West Yorkshire, Tracy Brabin.
